Gunnison Copper Accelerates Growth as Major Catalysts Align for America's Newest Producer

Arizona-based Gunnison Copper Corp. (TSX: GCU)(OTC: GCUMF) — currently trading around C$0.45 per share in a near-record copper market — continues to strengthen its growth trajectory as America’s newest copper producer following a pair of key developments underscoring both financial and operational momentum.

On 10 October 2025, Gunnison (“GCU”) announced a non-brokered private placement for gross proceeds of up to C$15 million, consisting of up to 33.3 million units priced at C$0.45.

Proceeds will be directed toward accelerating a Pre-Feasibility Study at the company’s flagship Gunnison Copper Project, advancing metallurgical drilling, and expanding upon the company’s recent high-value-add mineral-sorting program, which delivered positive results earlier this year.
Complementing the financing news, GCU also reported preliminary findings from an independent Economic Impact Study conducted by the University of Arizona’s Eller Partnerships Office.

The study projects total U.S. economic output of ~US$14 billion over the life of the project, supporting more than 53,000 job-years, and generating ~US$2 billion in labor income.

Gunnison Copper SVP and CFO Craig Hallworth commented on the study via press release:

“The University of Arizona's findings support what we have long emphasized — the Gunnison Copper Project has the potential to not only be a nationally significant source of Made-in-America copper, but also a generational economic driver for Arizona and Cochise County. The projected multi-billion-dollar impact and thousands of jobs over the life-of-mine demonstrate the scale of the opportunity, reinforcing Gunnison's importance to U.S. energy, defense, and manufacturing supply chains.”

While not a feasibility analysis, the report highlights the project’s transformative scale and long-term importance to Arizona and U.S. manufacturing supply chains.

Gunnison’s Johnson Camp Mine (JCM) — part of the larger Gunnison Copper Project in southeastern Arizona — remains central to the company’s growth trajectory with the past-producing JCM serving as the operational hub for current production and future expansion across the district.

Johnson Camp Mine details

With production underway, the company’s ongoing collaboration with Rio Tinto’s Nuton Technologies could mark a step-change for the future of the district. The Nuton process, focused on advanced sulfide leaching, is designed to unlock previously uneconomic material while dramatically reducing environmental impact.

Initial leaching of the Nuton sulfide stockpile is expected before year-end, marking a potential world-first application of the technology in active copper production.

These developments build on GCU’s strategy of establishing a vertically integrated, Made-in-America copper platform capable of scalable production growth from its 100%-controlled Cochise Mining District — home to 12 known deposits within an 8 km radius.

Exploration Upside map and details

With copper prices nearing all-time highs above US$5/lb, GCU’s growing production base and district-scale potential highlight a major valuation disconnect — with the company still trading at a sub-C$175M market cap despite strong partnerships and multiple near-term catalysts.

As promised, our own Gerardo Del Real of Junior Resource Monthly caught up with Gunnison Copper CEO Stephen Twyerould to break down the latest financing, progress with the Nuton partnership, and what’s next for America’s newest copper producer. Please enjoy!
